Hear jazz standards and originals played live.

Upon hearing the Alpha Cats, it is immediately apparent that these four musicians are dear friends having a blast together. Taking a more playful swipe at music, the Cats have been performing regularly since 2006 and their infectious romps have earned them a large and dedicated fan base. Playing both originals and standards, their repertoire ranges from classic jazz and western swing to blues, bossas and ballads with the theme always centered around having fun! Featuring Lewis Winn and George Langston, guitars; Susan Holmes, bass; and John Bartlit, drums, these four fabulous felines are well-established, highly respected members of the New Mexico music scene, with “first call” status as frequent freelancers as well as being leaders or vital members of other solid ensembles and special projects. Vocalist and trumpet player Christine Fawson, who made her Outpost debut this past spring, returns for a Summer Thursday Jazz Night with classic standards from the American Songbook and music from her Fall 2018 release, Sings Jazz. Recently relocated to New Mexico from Boston, MA, where she was a member of the brass faculty at the Berklee College of Music from 2003-2017, Fawson was a finalist in the 2017 Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Jazz Competition and has performed around the world. She was member of the vocal jazz group, Syncopation from 2002-2013, with whom she recorded three widely successful CDs and appeared with the Boston Pops Orchestra at the 2009 4th of July Celebration in Boston. She also played trumpet and was a featured vocalist with the DIVA Jazz Orchestra from 2004-2007, performing at Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, and Lincoln Center in NYC.
