Filmmakers from all over NM raised the bar significantly, with two distinct, fully-packed programs of short films including comedies, dramas, thrillers and documentaries of original entertainment.

Your hosts, impresario Joe West and author Andrew Wice, will welcome audiences to the Second Annual Madrid Film Festival at the Engine House Theater on July 26 and July 27 at 7:30 pm. An 11:30 am screening on Sunday was added because last year’s debut was such a runaway sold-out success, and these impressive short films deserve an audience.

The quantity and quality of films submitted this year was astonishing, coming from all over New Mexico. These filmmakers have raised the bar significantly, which results in two distinct fully-packed programs of short films. Comedies, dramas, thrillers and documentaries make for an evening of highly original entertainment.

Program 1 is Friday, July 26, 7:30 pm, $15. Program 2 is Saturday, July 27, 7:30 pm, $15. Tickets for both nights, plus access to the VIP reception, $25.

On Sunday is a discount screening, which shows all the films from 11 am to 3 pm, $15.

Tickets may be purchased via the www.Theaterofdeath.org website or in person at the Mine Shaft Tavern (upper Cantina Bar).

The 2nd Annual Madrid Film Festival hits the artsy little burg on the other side of the Sandias this weekend. Head on up the Turquoise Trail to the historic Engine House Theater at the Mine Shaft Tavern (2846 State Highway 14) for three days worth of entertainment. Songwriter/performer Joe West and novelist/screenwriter Andrew Wice are your hosts once again. Program 1 features a selection of short comedies, dramas, thrillers and documentaries and takes place Friday, July 26 at 7:30pm. Program 2 adds even more to the mix starting at 7:30pm on Saturday, July 27. Tickets are $15 each night or $25 for both nights (plus a VIP reception). If you can’t make it to the evening events, organizers have added a jam-packed Sunday matinee to this years lineup, featuring all the films from Program 1 and Program 2. That matinee takes place from 11am to 3pm and admission is a bargain at $15. To purchase tickets, or to see a complete lineup of films, go to theaterofdeath.org.
