About the artist:

Sarah Cummings is an emerging Albuquerque artist who has found her voice through visual art. Her work often depicts the divine feminine in many different forms. Her work is her process in healing.

Through her different mediums Cummings expresses visceral emotions that we are all familiar with, in a tangible visual form.

The different narratives of her pieces will give a glimpse into her world, and into the mind of a healer.

Her preferred mediums are charcoal and pencil, but she is versatile in her use and application of different mediums. Cummings work is centered around women, often showing a reoccurring feminine character that speaks as her characterization of an emotion during or after experiencing a trauma.

Cummings is a native New Mexican, but spent most of her childhood in Anchorage Alaska, landing back in New Mexico in 2004. Cummings has explored many different venues of artistry. As an adult she has braved the stage as a stand-up comedian, a karaoke deejay and a show emcee. Through her adventures in artistry, Cummings found her voice in her visual art. The methods of creation for her are not conventional. “I make a mess, and through the mess forms appear, and I just accentuate what was already there. The work presents itself, I am just the vessel of delivery.”

Cummings has used her work to show the power of art in healing traumas and has worked with women to use their creative voice to empower and heal. She works with people to show them how to encourage the healing process through purging emotion onto paper, and finding reoccurring themes, structures, and attaching feelings to colors and shapes. Sarah is completing her degree in Sociology and Art, in hopes to follow her dream in healing as an Art Therapist.

She is influenced by the abstract style of Salvador Dali, the vibrant colors of Wassily Kandinsky and the expression of the human condition portrayed by Hieronymus Bosch.
