It Speaks to Me - Book CoverThe Through the Flower Art Space will host its inaugural "First Flower Friday” event on Friday, August 23rd: Judy Chicago in conversation with acclaimed arts journalist, Jori Finkel, on women pioneers of abstract painting, including Hilma af Klint, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Agnes Pelton. Their topic for the night is inspired by an interview in Finkel's new book "It Speaks to Me", in which Chicago discusses a painting by Pelton as an example of early abstraction that she finds powerful and empowering.

Jori Finkel covers art for The New York Times from Los Angeles and is the West Coast correspondent for The Art Newspaper. She has also written for ARTnews, Art in America, W, and Art+Auction Magazine, where she was formerly senior editor, and lectures widely on contemporary art. Her new book It Speaks to Me (Prestel) features 50 artists on artworks they find inspiring from museums around the world.
