Up, Up and Away
Did you know that it takes more than magic dust and good intentions to make a hot air balloon fly? We didn't, either. Apparently there's a ton of science and mechanical-type knowledge involved. And now you can learn all about it at Intro to Ballooning this Sunday, Sept. 8, at Balloon Fiesta Park. Take part in this free crew training and learn the basics of tending a hot air balloon in a hands-on setting. Participants leave with an understanding of balloon physics and the role of the chase crew. The seminar runs from 7am to 1:30pm. This course is meant for those planning to volunteer at this year's Balloon Fiesta. (Joshua Lee)

While Balloon Fiesta features hundreds of beautiful hot air balloons, not all volunteers understand the science and mechanics of how they fly. We feel that everyone involved in putting on this event should have a basic understanding of this. This training is now a part of the Navigator program, AIBF offers Crew Training, giving Navigators an opportunity to spend a morning learning about hot air balloons in a hands-on setting. Weather permitting, this class will include set up, inflation and deflation of a hot air balloon.
