Amanda Martinez and Shanice Bloodbloom are two local artists who are exhibiting paintings and taxidermy work that are heavily influenced by life and death.

Bloodbloom’s work focuses on the ephemeral and the temporality of most things in life. One large inspiration she draws from is the Latin Christian theory and practice, Memento Mori, which reflects on mortality. This is easily paralleled by the use of animal skeletons, skin, insects, etc in Martinez’s work. Inspired by human and animal anatomy, Martinez's macabre creations are maybe the closest physical symbols of the beauty of the human experience.

Through this show they hope to exhibit not only the beauty in life but to show the beauty found in death as well. Hopefully their work will leave people with better appreciation and gratitude for the fragility and impermanence of everything they hold dear, as well as to place less significance on things that aren’t as important as they seem.
