Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan
Sitarist Situation
Sitarist Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is widely considered a master of the traditional Indian instrument. Khan is part of a multi-generational lineage of musicians who have studied the sitar intensely, fusing their own identities with an instrument long considered intensely beautiful and difficult performatively for all but those who understand its subtle range and intonations. Khan has won many awards for his work on the sitar, and his global presence has even begun to rival that of noted sitar master Ravi Shankar. Khan performs on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30pm at Outpost Performance Space. Outpost members and students with current ID may purchase tickets for $25 while general admission runs $30. (August March)

The legendary sitarist, who belongs to the seventh generation of the famous Etawah Gharana musical lineage, plays live.
Outpost, in partnership with PADMINI is please to present legendary sitarist, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, who belongs to the seventh generation of the famous Etawah Gharana musical lineage and is considered one of its most brilliant musical gems. Initiated into the rich music of the Gharana by his father, Guru Ustad Aziz Khan, a famous musician and the son of the legendary Sitar and Surbahar virtuoso Ustad Waheed Khansahab, Shahid Parvez Khan is admired worldwide for his sheer precision and astute artistic sense. To him, the sitar and the self are identical entities, and music is not just a discipline, but is “life itself – vibrating and pulsating and full of color.” The recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Government of India's 'Padma Shri' and the 'Sangeet Natak Academy Award,' he has performed in all major musical festivals in India and abroad including the Festival of India held in the US, Europe, USSR, Canada, Middle East, Africa and Australia. With numerous audio and video recordings, a substantial global following online, and a distinguished performance career in India and around the world, he is widely recognized as one of the greatest sitar-players performing today. He will be joined by Gourisanka on tabla.
