The Adobe Theater Presents: An Adobe Christmas Carol
Adapted and directed by Pete Parkin
Yes, it’s A Christmas Carol, but with a different twist!
In this heartwarming, funny and poignant adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale, a group of homeless people find their way into an abandoned theater on Christmas Eve to escape the cold. Looking around in hopes of finding some food or perhaps old costumes for warmth, one of them comes across a copy of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
To take their minds off the cold and their dreary circumstances they decide to act out the story, bringing new life to Dickens’ tale by using things they find just lying about the stage (an old door on some milk crates becomes Scrooge’s bed and the same door set on garbage cans becomes the Cratchit’s Christmas dinner table, etc.). With all of the characters acting in multiple roles, they set about to tell this magical story.
“I think putting the play in this kind of setting makes a strong statement about today’s society and the way less fortunate people and at-risk children can sometimes be forgotten about,” said Parkin. We need to accept differences as a part of being human and embrace them. And above all, work to protect all children, not just those in our neighborhoods.”
The cast of An Adobe Christmas Carol features many of Albuquerque’s most well known and loved stage actors as well as several up and coming young performers, including: Dylan Dazzo, Jim Duran, Neil Faulconbridge, Rhett Gleason, Timothy Kupjack, Lorri Oliver, Tom Poncho, Anastasia Price, McKenzie Ross, Meredith Schwall, Sophia Schwall and Linda Wilson.
