ABOUT THE SHOW:

For his work in “Showing Off”, Brian Bourassa (Bb), wanted to turn all the found paper he searched out in the alley ways of downtown San Francisco into an expression of his time on the streets there.

IN HIS WORDS:

"We are a heavy consumption society with an emphasis on waste, the city provides a treasure trove of found objects to be had...if you are looking. A lot of the paper was water damaged creased or came with frayed edges. There’s something about a discarded piece of paper that removes any inhibitions when I begin the drawing. The imperfections become part of the work. Many of these drawings were started and then put away for about three years. As I was getting settled in my new home here in Albuquerque, I rediscovered the work and decided to finish them with some really interesting results. Most of this work will be displayed as just that: paper found, inked up and then tacked to my studio wall on display.

I decided to add one more component to this body of work: appropriation. Everything today seems to recycled over and over again or taken apart and remade into something new again. We are living in the age of SUPER POP CULTURE. I chose Lady Katerina’s Erotic Coloring Book to hijack and make into something robotic and animalistic. A representation of our cultures move towards digital manipulation of one another." - Brain Bourassa (Bb)
