The Vietnamese Lunar New Year is known as Tết. This time around, the most auspicious event in Vietnamese culture happens on Jan. 25 on the Western calendar. But here in Albuquerque, the day is celebrated with a Vietnamese New Year Festival held on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 6:30pm at Holy Ghost Catholic School in Albuquerque's International District. This time of renewal, family and prosperity will feature traditional new year ceremonies including the Lion Dance. There will also be live music, choreographed dance performances and plenty of traditional Vietnamese food for sale. This free, all-ages community celebration is sponsored by the Albuquerque Vietnamese Community Association, The Albuquerque Vietnamese Baptist Church, Lavang Catholic Parish and the Van Hanh Buddhist Temple.
