Start the New Year right. Get your chew on at the Mochi Making New Year's Celebration. Join in the Japanese New Year tradition of pounding the living daylights out of rice and forming it into delicious cakes this Saturday, Jan. 4 at Japanese Kitchen. Learn about the tradition while watching a live mochi-making demonstration. Enjoy free samples of fresh mochi and see a live Taiko performance featuring traditional Japanese drumming. This all ages experience is free and open to the public. Demonstrations start at noon, so get there early to reserve a table. (Joshua Lee)

From noon to 2:30pm, you’ll be part of the sweet elite, learning the traditional art of making mochi, in an event that will feature live mochi making, free samples of fresh-made mochi and Japanese Taiko drumming demonstrations from NM Taiko!
