Veteran Hollywood sound editor Midge Costin explores cinema’s secret ingredient—the power of sound—in her new documentary Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound. The Screen in Santa Fe (1600 St. Michael’s Dr.) is not only showing the film (Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7pm), but is gathering a collection of film industry experts to discuss it afterward. The Screen’s panel consists of Emmy-winning sound engineer David Brownlow (Valley Girl, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Avengers, ”Waco,” “Preacher”), composer Michael Sterns (Chronos, Baraka, Samsara) and Oscar/Emmy-winning composer Dave Grusin (The Graduate, Tootsie, On Golden Pond). Tickets for this special educational event are $11 general admission, $9.50 seniors/students and $9 CCA members. To secure tickets in advance, to to ccasantafe.org.
