Dr. Ron McCurdy act as narrator and spoken word artist, along with piano, bass and drums for a multimedia performance of Hughes's kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite Ask Your Mama.

Featuring Professor of Jazz Studies at USC Thornton School of Music, trumpeter, Dr. Ron McCurdy who will also act as narrator and spoken word artist, along with piano, bass and drums, The Langston Hughes Project is a multimedia concert performance of Hughes's kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite, Ask Your Mama - an homage in verse and music to the struggle for artistic and social freedom at home and abroad at the beginning of the 1960s. A joyous celebration, Hughes' score draws from blues and Dixieland, gospel, boogie woogie, bebop, progressive jazz, Afro-Cuban mambo music and more. Joining Dr. McCurdy will be Yuma Sung, piano and Rodney Bowe, bass. The proceeds for this concert support the UNM African American Student Services Scholarship Fund.
