Like to do stuff that doesn’t involve leaving your yard? The Great Backyard Bird Count is exactly like it sounds—it’s you, in your yard, counting birds. What’s the point? It turns out that we have inadvertently forced our climate to rapidly change and with it, the migratory patterns of birds. You can help the folks at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology figure out what is going on by counting the birds you see and letting them know what you saw. They’ve set up the website birdcount.org to help you identify bird species and communicate your numbers. The ABQ BioPark Botanical Garden (2601 Central Ave. NW) is also holding a free, all-ages get together for birders on the count on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 8:30am to 11am to get Burqueños counting.
