Join Ellsworth Gallery, 215 E Palace, Santa Fe, NM 87501, for the opening of The Hazy World (Łid Bichahałeeł), a new exhibit by artist Greg Ballenger.

In The Hazy World (Łid Bichahałeeł), artist Greg Ballenger explores his indigenous ancestry by turning towards the singular architecture of the Navajo reservations he grew up close to in Gallup, NM. In paintings as large as six by ten feet, and works a quarter of the size, Ballenger's eye sees more than a basic shelter or structure—it sees an ingenuity and persistence coming out of this community's necessity to survive as climate change and encroaching industrialization continue to threaten their land.

Inspired by his people’s creation story and cultural teachings about the necessity of harmony, Ballenger lays his trust in the unwieldy shapes he paints, which at first glance look precarious yet are as prevailing as the hands that put them together. Painted with such fine detail, these works deserve to be seen in the flesh.
