Tablao al Aire

Dancing on, 2020-style

It is hard to beat the emotional power of a live flamenco performance, yet they have sadly been few and far between of late. But Old Town’s own Casa Flamenca has created an outdoor performance space with socially distanced seating where you can see live performances on hot summer nights. "Tablao al Aire" takes to the stage for a mix of live local performances and streamed works from Spain that promises to be a uniquely 2020 experience on Friday, Aug. 28, Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30 starting at 8:30pm. Tickets for the live performances are $35, or watch the stream from the comfort of wherever for $20. For more information and tickets to this all-ages event, see casaflamenca.org. (Clarke Condé)

More events at Casa Flamenca

Casa Flamenca is excited to open a new outdoor performance space called Tablao al Aire. It will feature socially distanced seating for audience members, making it possible to safely enjoy live and multimedia flamenco performances during Casa Flamenca’s summer tablao season.

Casa Flamenca’s Tablao al Aire will feature some of the finest flamenco artists from Spain who will give virtual performances  throughout the season. This prestigious roster of world-class flamenco performers includes flamenco singers David Lagos, Miguel Rosendo, Sebastián Sánchez, Alejandro Silva, El Cañejo de Barbate, as well as celebrated flamenco dancer Helmo Cortes. All of these highly acclaimed artists, as well as Casa Flamenca Musical Director Juani de la Isla, are from the province of Cádiz in southern Spain, considered by many to be one of the great centers of the flamenco art form. All have toured internationally with some of Spain’s most prominent flamenco dance companies and all are master performers and teachers of the flamenco arts.

Also performing will be artists from Albuquerque: the renowned Spanish flamenco guitarist Juani de la Isla, flamenco dancer Valeria Montes, trombonist Micah Hood and percussionist Javier Saume.
