For 41 years the South Broadway Cultural Center and Library have been a part of the celebration of the “Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe,” an 88-year-old community event that began in the “Williams” area of South Broadway. Beginning on December 8th, the tradition continues with an altar and traditional religious art on display in the gallery and library. The celebration is organized by Los Guadalupanos and St. Francis Xavier Church, and encompasses community altars and a procession led by the Bishop. Each year Los Guadalupanos selects a family from the community to create and erect an altar in the gallery, and the curator selects various artists who make traditional retablos and contemporary works which are shown in both the gallery and library.
