Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Color Matter, an exhibition of optical abstraction paintings by Xuan Chen. Through a combined exploration of cognative responses to visual illusion with a painter's approach, Chen reflects the growing contemporary practice of seeking new areas for technology and aesthetic to crossover. Using the visual language in computer generated 3D images and films, Chen illustrates what the left eye and the right eye are supposed to see. Each image is deconstructed layer by layer and fused back together by human binocular vision. In the project room is a series of luminous minimalist paintings by Charles Fresquez. Fresquez uses cast acrylic and strategically places threads of enamel color to create rhythmic constructions that are imbued with light. Both artist live and work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The exhibition is on view from April 5 - May 31, with gallery hours from 11-4 Tuesday through Saturday. More information is available at or by calling 505.766.9888
