The story of the seduction and abandonment of an innocent young Japanese girl by an American soldier on his deployment to her country.

This fully produced opera with orchestra, performed in two acts with one intermission, is sung in Italian with English supertitles.  Kaori Sato performs her signature role as Cio Cio San; Kathryn Cowdrick sings Suzuki, her faithful maid; Josh Kohl is Lt. Pinkerton; Stephen Hartley (Figaro in Opera Southwest's previous season) is Consul Sharpless; and Sam Shepperson portrays the marriage broker Goro.  Madama Butterfly is conducted by Anthony Barrese and staged by David Bartholomew, with set design by Carey Wong.
