Start with the very basics, including vocabulary, safe and accurate cutting, proper pressing, sewing an accurate seam and picking out fabrics.

There are two projects which teach and reinforce beginning skills. To the first class bring: a rotary cutter, a 6" x 12" quilters' ruler, 1/2 yard of a 100% cotton LIGHT fabric, 1/2 yard of a 100% cotton DARK fabric, 1/8 yard of a 100% cottom MEDIUM accent stripe, and 1/4 yard of Insul-Brite batting. Required Text: Complete Guide to Quilting (Better Homes and Gardens Creative Collection)(Paperback-2003) and you must have a sewing machine in good working order and know how to use it.
