An enchanting escape to diverse pre-Columbian pueblo cultures and early colonial history in a quaint, lightly traveled corner of NM.

We take a scenic drive down the east side of the Manzano Mountains for a brief stop at the Salinas Missions National Monument Visitor's Center in Mountainair and then head for Abo. We have a ranger-guided interpretive tour of the mission and pueblo site followed by a side trip to an extensive petroglyph panel holding hundreds of rock art symbols. After lunch we travel farther afield for a ranger-guided tour of rare Abo pictographs and superb, detailed cliff top petroglyphs seldom seen by the public. Then we relax and retrace our scenic drive back home, and if time allows, make a brief stop at the Quarai Mission site. Fee includes hiking guide and transportation.
