Art can do more than hang on a wall. It can also happen—shifting, propelling, forging new connections in real time. To that end, Debbie Hesse and Rashmi Talpade of collaborative artistic platform Geomorphic Tank are hooking up with performance artist Shola Cole at SCA Contemporary (524 Haines NW) to create a site-specific installation that moves in the moment. Organic in nature and eclectic in execution, Hesse's work incorporates plant forms, textiles, scrim and shadow. When fused with Talpade's more architectural manipulations of black lines and three-dimensional surfaces, surprising intersections emerge. Hesse describes the resulting creations as a kind of “parallel world.” The large installation at SCA Contemporary includes both floor and hanging components and will be on view until Dec. 13. But the full effect of Sway. Shift. Version 4.0 can only be appreciated by attending the opening reception and performance on Friday, Nov. 7, from 5 to 8pm, when Cole will become a “layer on top of our installation, using our work and moving responsively to it,” Hesse explains.
