A Romantic Recital
wikimedia commonsOn Sunday, Feb. 14, the Legends Theater at Route 66 Casino presents a concert by romantic balladeers and masters of a capella ruminations on love and life, Boyz II Men. An R&B group (now a trio, formerly and originally a quartet) with an affinity for soulful musical wanderings through the heart of human affection, Boyz II Men first made the scene in the 1990s with radio-friendly hits like “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day,” an epic tune to forever love they recorded with super-chanteuse Mariah Carey. In the years since they rose to the top of the pops, one member, Michael McCary departed the ensemble, leaving an essential trio comprised of tenors Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris as well as baritone Nathan Morris. Together, these three still bring the flavor of love to life as they tour around a gratefully enchanted planet of men and women. Tickets for this all-ages performance range in price from $35-$70 while romance fills the air beginning at 8pm. (August March)

morguefileOK. You've lost the spark. It's the last minute, and you need something quick that will give that ol' free-wheeling Valen-Times lovefest a jumpstart Don't panic. You've done the right thing by coming to me. While traveling in the East (Tramway), I met an initiate of the Aghori—definitively the most erotic of the Yogic mystical schools. This strange hermit, huddled in a corner under an overpass, told me a secret that I swore I'd only share in the pages of the Alibi.
Here goes: When it comes to getting those amorous juices flowing, there's nothing quite as titillating as the mating dance of the sexy eel. Yes. And just as luck would have it, the ABQ BioPark Aquarium will be hosting a special adults-only event from 6-8pm on Valentine's Day—That's a Moray!—a guided tour through the “erotic and often curious romantic rituals of aquatic animals.” Obviously, my mystic friend gets around.Show your special friend you still got a freak streak with a night of marine-based debauchery. Tickets are $30 per voyeur for the “Fish Love” tour, appetizers and one adult beverage. $45 gets you all that and dinner at the Shark Reef Cafe. (Joshua Lee)

Edgy
City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

Baby, It's Bad Out There
In the words of Dean Martin, “Baby, it's cold outside.” So lend a helping hand to the homeless folks in Burque by contributing to Astro-Zombies' 8th Annual Holiday Sleeping Bag Drive. Now through Saturday, Dec. 24, drop off new, adult-sized cold weather sleeping bags at the comic store to help local homeless people weather the winter cold. The bags will be distributed throughout the community on Christmas Eve. And for each bag you donate, you'll also be entered in a raffle to win awesome prizes from the likes of Masks Y Mas, Rude Boy Cookies, Archetype Dermigraphic Studio and more. After all, when told, “Baby, you'd freeze out there,” even Dean's lady asked him to lend her a coat. (Renée Chavez)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
