  • Playing in a Traveling Band

    Jeff Dow

One way to gauge the lasting influence of Creedence Clearwater Revival would be to check out a FIDLAR concert; Elvis Kuehn might whip out a tasty rendition of “Lodi” to finish things off. A second way involves sitting through a John Fogerty show. Dude was the creative force behind the band, but the closest his spring tour comes to Burque is San Antonio.

There is a third way. Here, it involves a run through the jungle (or in this case, the high desert) to Route 66 Casino Legends Theater on Friday, March 4, for a performance by Creedence Clearwater Revisited. That ensemble features the surviving members of the original band—the rhythm section of Doug “Cosmo” Clifford and Stu Cook—backed by a competent group of sidemen trained in the ways of bad moons and green rivers. Though they focus on the hits in a hagiographic fashion, their performances display a musical clarity that is sometimes missing from Fogerty’s watery digressions. And for somewhere between $22-48 you won’t be disappointed; if you are, take comfort in the fact that at least one of the folks on stage worked closely with Roky Erickson in the 1980s.
