Grande Route 66
For most of us in the metro area, Route 66 has been a daily part of life for as long as we can remember. It's an integral part of our day and commute—so much of life happens while we're driving. For locals who have been here for generations, we've seen the background to our drive change over time, some take more notice than others. From 5-8pm this Thursday, April 27, internationally recognized Laguna photographer Lee Marmon, New Mexican photographer Sondra Diepen and Chicago-based painter Carol L. Adamec will be showing their work reflecting the transformation of Route 66 and the surrounding areas at Then and Now: Rediscovering Route 66 Opening Reception at the KiMo Theatre Gallery. You can interpret the area's metamorphosis through the eyes of these brilliant artists until June 25, Wednesday-Saturdays 11am-8pm, and Sundays 11am-3pm. (Megan Reneau)

Why is Pie?
Dan ParsonsCarl Sagan famously said, “If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” Ponder that for a minute. Keep pondering—there's a lot to unpack in that one sentence. Now toss in demigods, alter-egos and the meaning of life. Okay, now write a whole play about the questions and ideas that arise from that exciting mixture of things. Oh, wait! Someone already did that so you don't have to. Wade through your physical perception of the universe toward the Adobe Rose Theatre in Santa Fe Thursdays-Sundays to see Theater Grottesco's performance of PIE. Regular tickets range from $12-$25, but Thursday performances are pay-what-you-wish and April 14 is a special $100 per person gala. Regular showings are at 7pm Thursday-Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
