Black Magick
I once saw David Copperfield make the Empire State Building disappear for a few seconds. It made me ill. I don't know how he did it, but I'm sure it involved a malefic deal with a devil of some sort. It scared the hell out of me. So, you can imagine my misgivings when I heard about The Illusionists: Live From Broadway coming to ABQ. The very idea of coming face to face with the devilish stars of the record-breaking show chills my blood. Where did they get their dark powers from? Who are they serving? How do so many quarters get stuck in my ears? Find out the answers this Thursday, May 4, at Popejoy Hall. Tickets for the all-ages show start at $35, but how much does it cost your soul, huh? Earnestly Yours
You won't need an alibi (well, obviously you'll need this Alibi for all the info) to get away from it all at The Vortex Theatre this Friday, April 21. See The Importance of Being Earnest, a scandalous play making fun of Victorian moral values like social codes, courting (i.e. sexual restraint) and elitism. Follow Jack Worthing—a man leading a double life—as he leaves his alternate identity to find love. In this scandalous tale, while being pursued by his ward, Jack proclaims his love for another woman as his alter-ego, Ernest. To marry the woman, Jack must reveal his true identity to his friend—and cousin of his beloved—Algernon Moncrieff. While telling Algernon about his “real” life, Algernon's interest is piqued at the description of Jack's ward. The play follows the men awkwardly navigating romance, truth and friendship. See the play Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm until May 14. (Megan Reneau)

Edgy
City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
