Theoretically speaking post-rock owes its intensity to the postmodern conceit that basic structural units of any genre can be deconstructed, manipulated and cunningly rebuilt to create something totally new and awesome. In reality, it's all about jamming the fuck out by using the foundational elements of rocanrol to create music that is decidedly not-rock. Explosions in the Sky, longtime instrumental innovators in this archly ambient, always experimental format, have a show at Sunshine Theater on Friday, Sept. 15. Groking the slithery sound the group makes as it meticulously meanders from familiar territory into the far reaches of non-euclidian space should be deemed a worthy project for everyone, but especially for listeners who kept asking themselves—as the millennium passed and then some—whatever happened to Krautrock and where did minimalism go? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced.
