Wealthy Words
Rich Chigga, also known as Brian Imanuel, is not even close to being 20 years old, yet the Indonesian rapper and comedian is taking hip-hop nation by storm. On the strength of solid jams like last year's “Dat $tick” and “Gospel,” (a collaboration with XXXTentacion and Keith Ape) Rich Chigga is beyond being a viral phenomenon: as of last month, that bouncing, badass single has more than 16 million views on Youtube, dudes. You can check out this latest in the greatest when Rich Chigga visits Sunshine Theater on Saturday, Oct. 14 as part of his ginormously successful Come to My Party Tour. So, yeah come to his party; tickets range in price between $20 for this all ages flow-athon. Local artists, crafters and makers of all stripes descend on the East Downtown neighborhood this Saturday, Oct. 14, for another Octofair. Sponsored by everyone's favorite DIY boutique, The Octopus and the Fox, this year the fair gets more expansive than ever with tons of local makers selling there wares—that's a given—but also coffee from Prismatic, a video game arcade thanks to Geek On LLC, and tons of music, beer and food thanks to partnerships with Sister, Farina Pizzeria & Wine Bar and La Cumbre Brewing Co. As ever, it's free to walk on in, but bring cash and card to pick up some one-of-a-kind pieces that you just couldn't find anywhere else. From 10am to 4pm, local DIY culture will reign supreme on the block. Don't miss it! (Maggie Grimason)

Then and Now: 1500s to 2017
Remember when we had to walk on foot from Mexico to Santa Fe? Me either, because the longest I had to walk was a mile when buses couldn't make it up my hill during winter in middle school, and that's the farthest I'll ever walk! If you're like me and have knowingly romanticized the past, don't miss the El Camino Real Trade Fair at the Gutierrez-Hubble House this Saturday, Oct. 14. From 10am to 4pm, you can learn about the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro stemming from central Mexico leading the way to Santa Fe and all the hardships, conquests and tall tales through reenactments, educational sessions and an aparejo mule packing demonstration. Even if that's not exactly your thing, you can still enjoy live entertainment, browse the work of local artisans and the turquoise trunk show. There's even going to be Navajo rug authentications on site! (Rini Grammer)

City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
