Sit Back
Reading—as you know—is a painful, horrible chore that we should never have to do in today's modern world of (supposed) convenience. Thankfully, some people are still willing to do the dirty deed for you. This Thursday, March 29, iconic spoken word artist Buddy Wakefield tugs at listeners' sensory organs and prods at their unwavering central vibration with nothing but sounds he makes with his mouth at the Source. This all-ages show runs from 7 to 9pm and features guests from the local poetry community. Tickets are $15.

I Play Just What I Feel
Courtesy of UNM MusicEvery year, UNM's early rite of spring, the Composers' Symposium, lures the biggest names in art and avant-garde music to this experimental city by the river. The problem is, this year we mostly didn't cover the lauded event—a thing where folks as big and beautiful as John Cage have come to hang out and talk and perform—due to scheduling conflicts with our big as hell BOB music fest. Luckily there's one event on the tail end of this year's run that listeners should be hep to: Thrascher, the multi-media saxophone ensemble led by UNM professor of jazz studies Glenn Kostur ends this year's proceedings with a reedy reverie. They're performing at the Outpost Peformance Space on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30pm. This group of fanciful yet groovy and grounded musicians incorporate jazz improvisation, contemporary compositional techniques, spoken word and choreography into their mesmerizing recitals. Check out the fertile frontiers of American music for between $20 and $25.
