Eternal Recurrence
Image via PixabayThat nightmare, again: You're in biology class, trying not to nod off while the teacher drones, and suddenly you notice everyone's gaze focus squarely on you. You're naked, it's test day and you forgot to study. But that's not what's freaking you out. No—it's the plastic jelly bracelets, stirrup pants and side ponytails that cause you to sit up in bed, heart thumping like a '90s boom bap beat. This Saturday, May 26, your dreams are becoming a dayglo-blooded reality at Holly Rebelle's High School Reunion: A Burlesque Tribute to the '90s. The dreaded time machine takes off from the Launchpad at 8pm. Admission is $15 for adults over 21 (anyone younger probably wouldn't get it anyway). (Joshua Lee)

Food for the Soul
Image via PixabayNothing inspires verse quite like the bounty of nature, and this Saturday, May 26, more than 100 lyricists converge on the banks of the Rio Grande for A Poet’s Picnic. This celebration of poetry, and the exchange of inspirations among artists of all stripes brings not just poets, but book vendors, calligraphers and musicians together for the day of creativity. The picnic begins at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitors Center at 10am and the recitation won’t stop until 4pm. Bring a blanket and a snack, the rest is totally free. (Maggie Grimason)

Gettin' the Wrigglies
Art Created by Valerie SernaDigging in the garden garners the best treasures in the form of worms. Nothing screams “healthy soil” like a silent wriggling worm. Worms quicken the composting cycle and make great soil any garden would be lucky to have. To discover more about these little insect gems, head down to the Cherry Hills Library this Saturday, May 26, for Vermicomposting: Worm Farms for Fun and Profit. Learn more about composting with worms, selecting a bin for your farm and harvesting that sweet compost. Don't worry about the early bird since this event doesn't start until 1pm. One lucky bug can also win a starter group of composting worms. This event is free so wriggle on down! (Valerie Serna)

Sex Ed, But Not Terrible
It’s been a long time since high school, and we could all use a refresher on some of the topics we nominally learned in a gym surrounded by people we don’t talk to anymore. For a fun and much less painfully awkward sex education experience, come out to Self Serve’s Sex Ed Game Show and Carnival at Sidewinders this Saturday, May 26, from 6 to 9pm. This (totally voluntary and consent-based!) “Jeopardy”-style game show tests your knowledge with silly sex questions and physical games. There’s also a spanking booth, relationship advice booth featuring author Kevin Patterson of Love's Not Colorblind, raffle prizes and more. Tickets are $5. (Robin Babb)

Edgy
City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
