The Gravity of the Situation
Photo by Eric TillinghastProsers and poets, artists and explorers can all find something to love in Richard Levy Gallery’s latest exhibition, formally opening on Saturday, June 9. Eric Tillinghast’s Þyngdarljóð, or Gravity’s Poetry in English, is comprised of lightboxes that depict waterfalls the artist studied during a two month stint in Iceland. The light boxes are activated by internal mechanics that bring life and movement to the pieces. Tillinghast has been working with water as material for sculpture for more than two decades—to exciting and beautiful effect. Stop in at the gallery between 5 and 8pm to celebrate the opening of the show and see some of Tillinghast’s latest works. (Maggie Grimason)

Untune That String, and Hark, What Discord Follows
Courtesy of the artistGet tuned up for the Classical Guitar Festival, an Albuquerque-based series of musical events sponsored by Guitar New Mexico. Besides a wealth of master classes, demonstrations, clinics and vendor opportunities for local musicians, this string-fest also features concerts by some of the country's premier players, including UNM guitar professor and vitruoso Michael Chapdelaine. A master of classical guitar technique, Chapdelaine is known for riveting performances of a repertoire that includes everything from Bach to Jerry Jeff Walker. Chapdelaine's recital is scheduled for Thursday, June 14, at 7:30pm at Keller Hall in the Center for the Arts on the UNM Campus. Tickets for this concert range from $15 to $20. The professor will also be a centerpiece at the concurrent festival taking place at Albuquerque Youth Symphony headquarters from Thursday, June 14 through Sunday, June 17; tuition for non-concert events ranges from $175 for students and music educators to $250 for the general public. Visit guitarnewmexico for more details. Twang!

Clad Your Kid in Khaki
Image via PixabayWhat kid didn't set up their stuffed animals and pretend they were at a zoo? Luckily for those kids, Wildlife West Nature Park is offering Junior Zookeeper Day Camp. From 9am to noon on Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 15 kids ages 8 to 12 learn zookeeping techniques, animal enrichment, and the biology of native plants and wildlife. This week-long camp allows children to be close to wildlife in a safe environment, namely Bob the bobcat and four gray foxes. This engaging event is $30 for families living in Santa Fe County and $70 for families outside of Santa Fe County. Cultivate your kid's love of animals and sign them up soon because space is limited and registration is required! (Valerie Serna)
