There is a good possibility that the ancient Chinese divination method I Ching is something most might be unfamiliar with. The age-old text, also referred to as Book of Changes, has served as a source of inspiration for more than 2,000 years, influencing everything from religion to art. However, the art showing focuses on the latter and the impact that the revered writings have had on local artist Denise Weaver Ross, who has opened a solo show titled 64 Hexagrams at Tortuga Gallery. The show opened Oct. 5 and continues on consecutive Saturdays before it closes on Oct. 27. The scheduled exhibit features more than 100 new paintings inspired by the art of the I Ching and the aforementioned hexagrams to create a combination of trigrams related to heaven, earth, thunder, water, mountain, wind and fire. The artistry stems from Weaver Ross' personal interest in the subject and is sure to provide the audience a one-of-a-kind glimpse of her stunning rendition. (Shane Farias)
