Secret Origin
Image via PixabayBack in the '80s, a mystery gripped the world of stadium anthem rock as bands began noticing a number of their personal clothing items were going missing—a pink leotard here, a striped headband there. Unbeknownst to these glamorous rockers, someone was harvesting their sweat. As legend would have it, four mysterious men would go on to fill a bathtub with the disgusting collection of perspiration for use in an unholy ritual known as the “rock and roll baptism.” What emerged from that dilapidated restroom? Only the world's greatest '80s cover band, Hairball. See them live this Friday, May 3, at the Legends Theater at Route 66 Casino. This all-ages show starts at 8pm. Tickets are $20. (Joshua Lee)

Peace, Love, Unity and Respect
Image courtesy of 6AM Rave ArchivesIf you totally dig concerts where there's only a couple of musical instruments on stage—a couple keyboards but certainly no guitars or drum kits—and most performers stylishly refer to themselves with the letters D and J prefacing phantasmagorical names, then have we got the show for you! On Friday, May 3 electro wizards of all types, who have mastered the lower frequencies, join forces at the first-ever Parade of Bass Festival at the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque Balloon Museum. Beginning at 6pm, 18-plus concertgoers can experience the magic created by acts like Slander, Said the Sky, Wooli, Wavedash and Papa Beats. The aforementioned does it all funky-style under a spectacular LED-lit, balloon-shaped backdrop, because visuals are part of the immersive experience offered at Flesh Fairs—I mean raves, these days. Don't forget your funky PJs, body paint and a tube of Vicks VapoRub, kids, because this show is it. General admission tickets are $45 and VIP costs up to $85. (August March)

City on the EdgeCity on the Edge is a breezy, smart podcast looking at the stories from Albuquerque history that have often been overlooked. Each episode takes a deep dive into a topic like the 1955 crash of TWA flight 260, Sandia Man or the 1918 quarantine. Worthwhile listening that will spur your curiosity about things you didn’t even know about in the city where you live. It’s free and available wherever you get your podcasts. (Clarke Condé)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
