New Zoo Review
Image courtesy of Madison Colt PhotographyOne of the most awesome parts of living in the Burkes has to do with the totally fabulous and infinitely entertaining ABQ BioPark Zoo. While many of us have spent countless hours there amongst the apes and crocodiles, another facet of this great green park filled with wildlife is its marvelous summer concert schedule. That's right, that bandshell is meant as more than a last chance for salvation when the elephants and lions go berserk. It's also the place where, yearly, for millennia now, the vaunted Zoo Music series has happened. This year interested patrons listen to legendary golden age hip-hop agent provacateurs Arrested Development as they appear at the aforementioned spacial coordinates for an all-ages jam on Friday, June 14 at 7pm. Their positive, Afrocentric rap was deeply influential to West Coast, left-wing and alternative rappers and the outfit's sound is still very relevant today, with injustice and hope throughout the nation. Anyway, they jam like heck, too, so you oughta go, home slice; admission only runs between $6 and $12. Plus lions and elephants, bro! (August March)

Summer of '69
Image courtesy of Diana DaviesWhile some folks were getting their first real six-string, others starting kicking the crap out of the crooked cops who kept raiding their bar in lower Manhattan. Back in the summer of ’69, the Stonewall Inn riots marked a turning point in the gay pride movement that is celebrated in story and song at the New Mexico Gay Men's Chorus Stonewall Summer of '69 Pride Concert on Friday, June 14 at Hiland Theater at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $20 to $45 for this all-ages event. For more information and tickets, see nmgmc.org. (Clarke Condé)

Eat Smart, Art Smarter
Image via PixabayARTsmart's Edible Art Tour happens Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15 from 5 to 8pm in downtown Santa Fe and on Canyon Road. Now, I know what you're thinking: how much art can I eat on this tour? The good news is less than you would expect. As you jump from gallery to gallery, there is no chewing frames or canvases, as some paints are toxic. This two-night festival boasts food from the best caterers and restaurants to sate the hunger of attendees. These all-ages events are $45 per person. To find out more about this event, call Artsmart at 992-2787 and get all the information you need to avoid licking bronze sculptures. (Dan Rayne Pennington)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
