New Mexico RISING, the second annual Climate Disruption Film Festival, happens on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7 at the UNM Continuing Education Center. The two-day event focuses on the current climate emergency and features speakers, panels, films and discussion about a massively disruptive environmental situation currently developing on planet Earth. Speakers include author Maya van Rossum, famed New Mexico ecologist and former public lands commissioner Ray Powell, UNM climatology professor Dr. David Gutzler, a Q&A session with City of ABQ Sustainability Officer Kelsey Rader, and, of course, the films: The Soil Story, Unfractured, Wildlife Without Borders: Wildlife Across the West, Sacred Land, Sacred Water and The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry? Breakout discussion sessions featuring local experts follow on Saturday afternoon. The Friday evening session (from 5:45pm until 9pm) is free, as is Saturday, but there is a $10 charge for adults who desire a vegetarian lunch on Saturday.
