Refugee Supportee
Image via PixabayThe Tres Hermanas Refugee Farm Fundraiser happens Sept. 6 from 6 to 8:30pm at the Rio Grande Community Garden. This group helps more than 75 refugee farmers “increase their self-sufficiency, improve their English and learn financial skills by growing food and taking it to farmers markets to sell.” Help support their mission and join them for a night of live mariachi music, food and fun. For $40 per ticket, you’ll be able to give them the funds to continue the amazing support work they do. There’s even a silent auction, so get more more info at the event website, lfsrm.org. Pick It and Stick It (In Your Freezer)
Image via PixabayAh, the fall season is soon upon us, and with it comes the smell of roasting chile in the air. But some of us are a bit more particular, no? We have preferences in quality, shape and, dare I say, size? Why settle for a random assortment when you can find the perfect fit for your life? Don’t worry, my friends, because Big Jim Farms Chile U-Pick event is officially a go, starting in September. On Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9am until 6pm, you can go out and find the exact chile for your life. At $1.50 per pound, you’ll struggle to not walk away with a ton, though discounts are available for larger purchases; pay just $35 for a 40-pound sack. So go get your fill and stock up. Stoke the chile envy of your neighbors with a well-stocked fridge. (Dan Rayne Pennington)

2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
