El Primo
Image courtesy of the artistThe New Year's Eve celebration at Route 66 Casino Hotel's Legend's Theatre features bandleader, trumpeter and singer Louis Prima, Jr. in concert with his latest band, The Witnesses. There are two performance on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 3pm and 8pm. Prima is a hip player who is following in his parent's footsteps. Louis Prima, Sr. and mother Gia Malone were big jazz personalities in the '50s and their son carries that signature sound capably into the next decade with a style that is part traditional and all contemporary. Prima's expressive explorations of jazzed up rock, soul and swinging blues get audiences dancing and New Year's Eve is the perfect time to indulge the band's joyous sound. This all-ages concert celebration costs only $20. (August March)

A New Year's Eve to Eclipse All Others
Image courtesy of NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center/Arizona State UniversityMaybe it’s just a phase but so many terrestrial New Year’s Eve events are full of lunatics and most events on the moon just have no atmosphere. This year, the tide may be turning now that the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science has risen to the occasion with an enormous floor map of the moon they borrowed from NASA. From 9am to 11am on New Year’s Eve, folks of all ages can walk the map, try their hand at the lunar scavenger hunt and other space-related activities at New Year’s Eve on the Moon. This event is included with museum admission and registration is not required, but you might want to get there early to find your spot on the moon map before it’s full. It goes without saying that while 2019 is waning, this event is out of this world. (Clarke Condé)

A Roarin' Good Time
Image via PixabayThe Roaring ’20s: What a time to be alive! Infamously the best decade of its century, with literally nothing but great times and ending on the highest of notes, relive those good times and attend the New Year’s Eve Roaring ’20s Dinner at Gruet Winery on Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 7pm to 10pm, which means you get to celebrate the New Year with New York, but are on your own for New Mexico. General admission tickets are $100 and cover a four-course dinner that ends with a spiced Gruet wine and poached pears with honey crème fraiche. Themed outfits are appreciated, though not required, but do you really want to be the one out of sync with the night’s theme? Drink a bottle of Brut with dinner or take it home for later. So, if you fear public intoxication, Gruet has your back. For more info, find the event at eventbrite.com. (Dan Rayne Pennington)

Dublin Down on Fun
O’Niell’s Pub holds their annual New Year’s Eve tradition of the Dublin Toast on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 5pm. Why 5pm? Maybe you’re tired, and you want the thrill of that midnight kiss to ring in the new year but have trouble staying awake late. Thankfully, Ireland refuses to adhere to the laws of America and starts its New Year’s celebrating earlier than the rest of us, so share in a toast to Ireland. They are Shirley Temples for kids, so pump them full of sugar instead. Noted surprises probably do not include a New Year’s- themed Krampus, but definitely traditional Irish step dancers, bagpipes and the joy of being with others. For more information, visit their website, oniells.com. (Dan Rayne Pennington)Image via PixabayO'Niell's Pub (Nob Hill)Dublin ToastToast the End

Image courtesy of the artistThe Santa Ana Star Center is certainly one of the most happening places to be for the annual New Year's Eve Dinner and Dance on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 7pm, and features a gourmet buffet complete with prime rib, fresh seafood, international specialities and exquisite, artisan deserts. The party continues at 9pm with a dance hosted by longtime local music masters Fat City jamming out as the clock closes in on 2020. For only $45 per person, patrons enjoy both eating and dancing the night away while a dance-only ticket to this 21-plus party costs but $26. Party planners tell our reporters that those in attendance are reminded to dress their best to help rock in the coming year so get your bling and things together and prepare for a shiny new year under moonlit New Mexican skies. 2020 Bosque Chile FestivalLooking for a little chile? The 2020 Bosque Chile Festival, a celebration of food, art, and culture on the Rio Grande, is happening Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with times waiting to be officially announced. But due to COVID-19 and the State of New Mexico public health order, the festival will be presented virtually! There will still be entertainment, art activities, a virtual artisan market, chile-chef demonstrations, educational workshops and more. This free, all-ages event is meant to give those stuck at home a chance to see what the state has to offer. If you are a high-quality chile-inspired and authentic New Mexican business with an e-commerce website and want to be a vendor, there is still time. Applications are being accepted until Wednesday, August 5. For more information email bosquechilefestival@bernco.gov.
