Just a few days before the release of his latest hip-hop epic, local rapper and citizen of the world Wake Self died in a tragic automobile accident in Santa Fe, N.M. The work of this visionary community member drew from the deep lessons of life—learned by a man who always looked toward the future and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of listeners and the progress of the people of El Duque—as he created some of the most compelling hip-hop ever to be born in Burque. On Friday, Jan. 3, beginning at 8pm, join the grateful living for a listening party at Sister that celebrates the release of the album titled Ready to Live. This commemorative and celebratory event features Wake Self's final recording as well as performances by DJ Ohm, DJ Native, Zoology and Awkward Actwrite. Admission to this 21-plus woke wake for Wake costs $7. (August March)
