SUMMARY:Salt Pillars
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Salt Pillars\,” an exhibition featuring Andrés Mario de Varona\, Michael Petry\, Eric Cousineau\, and Morgan Barnard\, extended until February 10\, 2024. \nSalt Pillars is a group exhibition of photographs and sculptures by Eric Cousineau\, Andrés Mario de Varona\, Morgan Barnard and Michael Petry. The show features six series\, each with a central motif that serves as a surreal container for human experience. Televisions\, motel rooms\, light boxes\, glass forms and a makeshift photography studio become vessels for grief\, anger\, intimacy and growth. \nThe show’s title references the Bible story of Idit\, reductively referred to as Lot’s wife in the book of Genesis. God transforms Idit into a pillar of salt when she’s forced to flee the collapsing city of Sodom and longingly glances back. A modern touchpoint is Shirley Jackson’s 1948 short story “Pillar of Salt\,” in which a New York tourist watches the city distintegrate around its oblivious inhabitants. \n“Salt Pillars defiantly asserts the wisdom of looking back\, despite the risk of devastation or even desolation\,” says Gallery Director Jordan Eddy. “Its imagery often abstracts the human figure or peripherally explores human presence\, tracing the salty residue of sweat and tears that we leave on the world and each other.”

SUMMARY:A Tenuous Thread
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of “A Tenuous Thread\,” an expansive retrospective that traces master weaver Bhakti Ziek’s pioneering approach to textile craft. Presenting a diverse array of textile works by Ziek and her pupils-turned-colleagues\, the exhibition weaves an anecdotal account of contemporary fiber art’s history with textile tales about the appropriation of fiber craft\, how cultural knowledge is shared through material culture\, and Ziek’s journey to push the conceptual and technical limits of weaving. Celebrate the legacy and influence of one of America’s foremost contemporary weavers\, fiber arts educators\, and authors with a showcase of over fifty years of dedicated fiber study\, teaching\, and practice. \nZiek’s oeuvre presents intimate portraits of personal history that provide approachable entryways into the extensive history of fiber art and conceptual springboards for in-depth conversations about cultural appropriation. This reception includes the presentation of Ziek’s personal floor loom\, which the artist will use in-gallery to demonstrate her weaving practice every Thursday and Saturday following the exhibition opening.

SUMMARY:CELEBRATED ROCK MUSICIAN TO OPEN PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT IN NEW MEXICO
DESCRIPTION:February 06\, 2024\, Truth or Consequences\, New Mexico
 \nFor immediate release:
\nCELEBRATED ROCK MUSICIAN TO OPEN PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT IN NEW MEXICO\nNew York City’s Anne Husick will attend T or C gallery opening of her original works\nCareer rock ’n’ roll musician Anne Husick is no stranger to traveling. As a long-time member of the influential group Band of Susans\, and essential female rocker Ronnie Spector’s touring band\, Husick has performed across the United States and Europe. She has also worked with Wilson Pickett\, Dead Can Dance’s Peter Ulrich\, appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman\,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon\,” and shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen\, Joey Ramone\, and many others. \nHusick’s career was heavily impacted by the COVID pandemic. Temporarily relocating to a family friend’s cabin in Upstate New York\, Husick spent the pandemic documenting the colorful\, fascinating (and considerably quieter) lives of bees\, wasps\, wide-eyed spiders\, inquisitive snails\, and other residents of the nearby woods and lakes. The result is “From the Green Room to the Green World\,” a collection of striking and highly detailed original photographs of the hidden microcosm of rural New York. \nThe opening reception takes place during Truth or Consequences’ popular Art Hop on Saturday\, March 9\, from 5 pm to 9 pm. Husick is traveling from New York for the event and isn’t going to miss the chance to mix in some live music with her fine art. She’ll be performing three short sets with local musicians at the gallery that night. \n“It’s not just these tiny creatures that enthrall\,” says Lunáticus Gálerie director Constantin Pârvulescu\, “but how they are seen in their environments\, and how their lives continued unaware of the pandemic raging around them in the world of humans. We’re thrilled to have a musician and artist of Anne’s stature exhibiting here in T or C. Her work is a refreshing addition to southern New Mexico’s flourishing contemporary arts scene.” \nAs a teenager\, Husick attended New York’s distinguished High School of Music and Art. She still makes her home in New York City and writes\, records\, and performs regularly with her own band\, Exit 99\, and other noted New York acts. \nArtist’s reception: March 9\, 2024\, from 5 to 9 pm at Lunáticus Galerie\, 424 North Broadway\, Truth or Consequences\, NM 87901.\nAdmission is free.\nFor further information or interview requests\, contact Constantin Pârvulescu: (206) 669-0168 or sidereal2331@gmail.com
