Moving Movies— On Friday, April 28, at 8 p.m. the Readymade Dance Theater Studio (4011 Silver SE) will present a one-night opportunity to view two cutting-edge dance films—“Imposters” by Albuquerque-based PutAttention Dance Collective and “Back to Kinshasa” by Parisian director Luli Barzman. “Imposters” is an experimental video that probes the PutAttention Collective’s “dance response” to Albuquerque’s developing Westside. “Back to Kinshasa” is a profile of Congo-born, Paris-based choreographer/dancer Faustin Linyekula. The films run approximately 50 min. Tickets are $5 general admission. Seating is limited.

Queer Night at the Movies– LISP, the monthly queer/trans cabaret in Santa Fe, will host an all-film night featuring a “plethora of local and national queer filmmakers” on Friday, April 28, at 8 p.m. Short works by Shalimar Krebs, Ian Wolfley, Bill Basquin, Ed, Rosie Jablonski, Sheila Wilson and Ethan Bach will all be screened. As always, artist/writer/performer Cooper Lee Bombardier hosts. It all happens at Backroad Pizza (1807 Second Street in Santa Fe). Dirty Picture Discussion– The Youth Advisory Board of ACLU New Mexico is sponsoring a screening of the civil liberties-related film Dirty Pictures . The film, starring James Woods, tells the true story of a Cincinnati museum curator who was put on trial for displaying the sexually explicit photographs of artist Robert Mapplethorpe. Dirty Pictures will be screened at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, at the UNM Student Union Building. There will be a discussion of censorship issues prior to the film led by a local novelist and ACLU New Mexico staff attorney, George Bach.

Shoot Me!– Albuquerque’s Digital Filmmaking Institute (DFI) is now accepting short scripts for the Duke City Shootout (formerly DigiFest Southwest, formerly Flicks on 66 and soon to be something else). The festival–taking place July 21-29–will produce, shoot, edit and premiere seven digital films in seven days. DFI will select the seven best submitted scripts to compete for the prestigious “Palm de Grease” award. The Shootout will fly the screenwriters to Albuquerque, where they will be given a cast, camera and lighting equipment, production crew, post-production facilities and even a professional mentor to help bring their pages to life. Deadline for submission is June 1. Entry fee is $40.
