Tito and the Birds

Tito and the Birds

The oddball plot of this Brazilian animated fable crams storybook ideas (a 10-year-old inventor finishes his father's machine, allowing him to talk to birds) with Alex Jones-style paranoia (a right-wing pundit stokes public paranoia for profit when a "fear-based" plague turns people into limbless lumps of quivering flesh). Though the narrative is a bit of a jumble, the gorgeous animation (employing the heavy impasto style of oil painting) gives this progressive urban fairy tale wings. In Portuguese with English subtitles. FULL REVIEW: Brazilian cartoon paints a dark picture by Devin D. O’Leary (2/14/2019). 73 minutes Unrated. (Opens Friday 2/15)
