On the streets of Mumbi, a lonely photographer (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) crosses paths with an unhappy student (Sanya Malhotra) and takes her picture. In order to appease his nagging grandmother back home, he sends the girl's picture in a letter and claims she is his fiancée. But when granny shows up unexpectedly in the big city, our photographer appeals to this woman he does not know to pose as his girlfriend. What starts as a total cliché of a setup for a romantic comedy instead changes into a sad-faced drama about expectations (romantic and otherwise) and family obligations. Too slow and timid for those looking for lavish romance, it's nonetheless an intriguing twist on traditional movie love stories. From the director of The Lunchbox. In English, Hindi and Gujarati with English subtitles. FULL REVIEW: Independent Indian romance favors simple interaction over lavish affairs by Devin D. O’Leary (5/23/2019). 110 minutes PG-13. (Opens Friday 5/24)
