Limelight

Silent film icon Charlie Chaplin wrote, directed and starred in this late-in-the-game (1952) comedy-drama about a washed-up clown who saves a suicidal vaudeville dancer (Claire Bloom) from killing herself. The film wasn't seen widely in America until 1972 because Chaplin was banned from the US in the '50s thanks to alleged (and ultimately spurious) Communist sympathies. 137 minutes Unrated.
