A Healthy Salad

New Mexico is one of a few states that might have been exposed to listeria-ridden greens. The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes causes Listeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the little critters. Papa John's Salads & Produce, a major grocery store supplier of specialty deli items and salads, announced a recall of their Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing, which was found to contain sesame seeds involved in a recent SunOpta sunflower kernel recall. This is why a purely chocolate-and-Cheetos-based diet is the only one that makes sense.

Mezcal Twist

Speaking of tequila: A hip Downtown bar is getting a facelift. Again. Owner Emiliano Vasquez wants to revamp the drinking establishment currently known as the Stereo Bar (and formerly known as the Golden West Saloon) to match the changing climate of Downtown ABQ. His vision of a tapas and tacos watering hole with a selection of 80 high-end tequilas for street-beating socialites makes our bellies hot with anticipation. The new old spot at 622 Central SW opens its doors again for the first time under the name “Mezcal.”

Drunk History

Santa Fe's Anasazi Bar, Lounge & Patio (113 Washington) at Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi starts off its new monthly Tequila Flight Experience this Thursday. Each installation promises a representative of a different distinguished brand who will be on hand for “tequila education” (getting rowdy) and brand history (reminiscing about drunken misadventures of past). And hors d'oeuvres, too? The first experience welcomes a rep from Tequila Don Julio this Thursday, May 26, from 6 to 7pm. Reservations cost $40 and can be made by calling 988-3236.
