And that makes me grumpy. I hate the cold just as much as I hate the extreme summer heat, but come on. We had that brief moment where I felt the rush of cold hit us and got excited. Flannel unpacked, heater in the house turned on and my good blankets brought out, ready to wrap me up and surround me in warmth. Then, out of nowhere, bam! The heat is back! Flannel is too warm, I don’t ever leave my car at the right temperature and now I’m in a bad mood. Thankfully, the city has us covered with some October events to help us get back in the mood of what October should be: Cool, relaxed and just a touch spooky. Here are some of the ones you should be checking out to get back in the mood.

Weekly Specials: Haunted Bar > Haunted Car Haunted Bar > Haunted Car

Haunted Bar > Haunted Car O’Niell’s Pub
My favorite part of October is Halloween, because like, duh, why wouldn’t it be? What screams October more than wearing a costume, being given candy and also probably a heinous amount of drinking and bad choices? Ok, maybe I also just described most of my college years, but those are thankfully over! What isn’t over is the upcoming party at The O’Niell’s Event Space (4310 Central Ave. SE) which will be hosting a Haunted Bar Halloween Party on Oct. 19, starting at 8pm. Entry will be $5, though you can (and should) bring a non-perishable food donation for Roadrunner Food Bank. They’ll have a haunted house, an Instagram photo scavenger hunt, a costume contest with prizes, a dance party and more. Given the wide selection of drinkable things available, you’ll be more than satisfied with things to drink. The best news? It’s not on Halloween weekend, so you won’t have to choose between one of 18 parties to attend. Get more information on the event by visiting their Facebook page or give them a call at 255-6782.

Weekly Specials: Goth Night. Enough Said. Goth Night. Enough Said.

On the night of Oct. 17, at 10pm, Alchemy Nightclub (420 Central Ave. SW) will be hosting the Alchemy All Vinyl Halloween Party with K.Oss & Riffrat. This 21-and-over event will be the “spookiest” goth night of the year, featuring darkwave, goth, industrial and more all on vinyl. Costumes are encouraged but not required, with the event listing saying they “want to see you decked out in your spookiest, sexiest, darkest attire.” Get down on the goth life you’ve been missing out on, letting that black outfit match your feelings on the world. Do your hair up, get your best boots on (if you need help lacing them up, let us know) and get on down to Alchemy Nightclub to dance your sadness away.
