MED ABSTRACTOR (REQ4451)

The New Mexico Tumor Registry (NMTR) maintains a population-based registry of cancer cases for the entire state of New Mexico and the American Indian population of Arizona. The NMTR is a division of the Cancer Control Program at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NMTR is a founding member of the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program and has been continuously funded by SEER Program since 1973. Data collected by NMTR's Medical Abstractors and Certified Tumor Registrars are routinely used to document and track trends in cancer occurrence and care, support scientific research and inform public health policy. The NMTR is a seeking Medical Abstractor to: · Abstract and code patient-specific information from a variety of sources, including medical records, laboratory reports and vital records, in accordance with prevailing standards and protocols · Systematically edit data to ensure accuracy and completeness · Participate in quality assurance and research activities, as needed · Comply with prevailing legal and ethical standards to ensure patient confidentiality and privacy · Assist in developing and maintaining Registry policies and procedures · Travel to medical facilities throughout the state of New Mexico and adjacent states (valid New Mexico driver's license is required) · Travel to medical facilities throughout the state of New Mexico and adjacent states (valid New Mexico driver's license is required) · Exhibit the highest levels of professionalism, both in the office and when traveling throughout the region · Actively prepare for and obtain professional certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) OR Associates degree in any field with two college level semesters of Human Anatomy and/or Physiology.
