Adult Swim has finally released a sequel to one of its most popular games with Burrito Bison Revenge. Once again, you're an angry Mexican wrestler. You escaped from the clutches of the evil gummi bears last time. But you left your wallet behind. Engage in more "launch game" madness, squashing enemies and piling on the power ups to shoot yourself as far as possible and escape the Candy Kingdom once and for all. Game play is enhanced and fine-tooled from the previous outing, making this more of an upgrade than an entirely new game. But when squashing bears is so much fun, who's to complain?
Given how addicted to acronyms modern crime shows have become (“CSI,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “JAG,” “NCIS”), it’s nice to see somebody giving the genre a good, solid ribbing with “NTSF:SD:SUV::.” That stands for “National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle::.” The show—joining Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block this Friday—throws around colons like Mötley Crüe throws around umlauts. Just as fellow live-action series “Childrens Hospital” mercilessly tweaks hospital drama clichés, “NTSF:SD:SUV::” makes light of cop show stereotypes.
It’s no secret at this stage of the game that the madmen (and women) behind Cartoon Network’s long-running Adult Swim programming block like the weird stuff. They regularly air shows like “Squidbillies,” “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and “Superjail!” Now, they’ve teamed up with members of the Pittsburgh, Pa. / Providence, R.I. art collective Paper Rad to open up the cage and let loose their newest animated freak show, “Problem Solverz.”
Do you like cartoons? Of course you do. Do you like weird cartoons? I’m gonna say yes. If you agree with the arbitrary affirmatives on those questions, then you’re probably a regular viewer of Adult Swim over on Cartoon Network. Fans of such cult toons as “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “Squidbillies,” “Robot Chicken,” “Metalocalypse,” “The Venture Brothers” and so on need to check out the Ragbag of Jollification. This 10-city touring carnival of music, games, food, free prizes and corporate sponsorship is intended to both promote CN’s Adult Swim lineup and to reward fans for their slavish devotion. The Ragbag of Jollification will stop in Albuquerque tonight, April 4, from 6 to 11 p.m. It’s taking place at 224 Central Ave. SW in the parking lot outside Lotus nightclub. Tonight’s special guest will be the band Maserati, bringing its signature, Athens, GA, brand of “ambient/crunk/psychedelic” to town. It’s all free, so you’ve got no excuse not to check it out.
“PitchMen” (Discovery 7 p.m.) Well, with the death of Billy Mays, we’re down to “PitchMan.” So our guy Sully goes looking for a replacement.
“The Kids In the Hall: Death Comes to Town” (IFC 8 p.m.) Hold the presses! A new Kids In the Hall series? How great is that? The original gang (Foley, McCulloch, McDonald, McKinney, Thompson) reunite for this six-part “gothic comic murder mystery” about the hunt for the elusive killer of a small-town Canadian mayor.
Who among us hasn't dreamed of becoming a lunch lady? I agree; It's a dazzling prospect. But you know what's even cooler? Becoming a lunch lady for inmates on death row! Live out your career dreams with Adult Swim's Death Row Diner. Feed those inmates! Bus those trays! Wash those dishes! Mop up that spilled blood! And make it snappy! It's all about time management with this game. .. That and keeping bloodthirsty incarcerated killers from rioting through the judicious application of hamburger meat.
