Submit your concept for the Alibi's Art Box Competition, a challenge to local artists to design, energize and give life to the distribution boxes that house our publication on the streets of Albuquerque.
Happy Tuesday Report Station fans. These are more tracks that came off the phone’s voicemail, not the Alibi’s. Again, this means these people were called from the phone booth and are calling the number back.
We put out a call to local artists, asking them to show us how they’d redesign an Alibi distribution box. We were subsequently showered with submissions, and we spent weeks poring over drawings, sketches, digital renderings, and mad ramblings in letters and emails. Notions of every sort sloshed across our desks, fresh from the minds of our city’s creative geniuses.
Scores of submissions came in from Albuquerque's top artists to do makeovers on the Alibi’s distribution boxes. Arts Editor Summer Olsson and Circulation Manager Geoff Plant sifted through the renderings, letters, drawings, blueprints and portfolios to choose the best designs. Plant delivered out-of-commission boxes to the winners. Three weeks later, the beauties came rolling back in, ready to be deployed along Albuquerque's main corridor. The 14 finished boxes are mapped out below.
