Flyer on the Wall: Halftone Hoedown

Artist Chelsea Wrightson created this week’s lovely Flyer on the Wall. Headlined by a maroon cat’s cradle, this work of art announces a ’60s-themed dance party at Blackbird Buvette (509 Central NW). The retro get-down will benefit emerging female-identified Burque publication Neblina. Don your finest vintage and dance and drink to fundraise for female ink. Party!

TONIGHT: Our Free 20th Birthday Dance Party

Today is our birthday proper, and we’ll celebrate our 20th anniversary with a free party at Effex Nightclub (Fifth Street and Central).

The Alibi teamed up with local event promoters Foundation Industries, so the DJ line-up includes Digital Fusion (Mike Lowinske v. Jennifer Chafey), Amy Lopez, Joe Savage, The Rev (Timm Reynolds), Tempo (Erik Runion) and Dave Decibel.

Plus, there’s free food from Buffet King and a great big birthday cake from Cake Fetish. So come down to Effex and show Albuquerque's weekly newspaper your support.

Ghost Hunting Tour Wednesday June 8th at Casa Esencia

I’m conducting a 21+ tour of the paranormal tonight (Wednesday, June 8th) at Casa Esencia, formerly Maria Teresa Restaurant, at 800 Rio Grande NW. That place is literally crawling with ghosts, demons, monsters, ogres and middle-aged Hispanic women in maroon dresses. I think there’s also a dance party there, but whatever. I’m looking for ghosts and maybe scooping ice cream or something. Casa Esencia: it are hornted.

The Party Don’t Stop

Don’t let the impending work week get you down. On Sundays from 4 to 11 p.m. DJs Flo-Fader, Nicolatron, OHM, NTOX and Diamond Tip keep the spirit of the boogie alive with Weeksend at the Albuquerque Press Club (201 Highland Park Circle SE). This Sunday will feature grilled foodstuffs in exchange for cash, plus games including a water balloon fight (weather permitting). All ages are allowed until 9 p.m. The Press Club, being a private establishment, means all guests must sign in, obey the club’s rules and do a dance. (Jessica Cassyle Carr)
