Zine Fest unfolds tonight

Thanks to artists like Eva Avenue, Marya Errin Jones and Andrew Lyman, Burque’s zine scene has been pumping out some quality DIY lit for the past several years. These zinesters—and many others—bring their Xeroxed glory to the first ever ABQ Zine Fest, which kicks off tonight at Cellar Door Gifts & Gallery. While attending the zine mixer, rock out to jams from The Scrams, Lady Uranium and The Deadtown Lovers. Get full details on the rest of the weekend’s festivities in this week’s Alibi.

UPDATE: The Scrams and Lady Uranium have been scratched from the bill. 15 Polk St. has been added and DJs Mello and Caterwaul will spin.

Operation Art Box

We put out a call to local artists, asking them to show us how they’d redesign an Alibi distribution box. We were subsequently showered with submissions, and we spent weeks poring over drawings, sketches, digital renderings, and mad ramblings in letters and emails. Notions of every sort sloshed across our desks, fresh from the minds of our city’s creative geniuses.
